Battambang Heritage Preservation Initiative Online

More and more inhabitants and HOUSE OWNERS ARE AWARE of the importance of the Heritage Protection Area for the city. Moreover they have come to realize its economic potentials. Thus proper maintenance, suitable use of heritage buildings and a growing interest among citizens in Battambang’s past are to spot.

The Municipal Administration recently set up adequate REGULATIONS for ADVERTISEMENTS boards within the Heritage Protection Area. This is the first step in developing stricter building regulations to protect the existing urban heritage and guarantee that future constructions do not harm the unique city scape.

The OLD PROVINCIAL HALL, or “Sala Kaet” as the buildings is known in Battambang, is under renovation. The appearance of this magnificent landmark has been repeatedly changed since it was erected in 1907. It will be reconstructed close to the historic original. In the future it will function as a meeting place for the Municipal Council and host a permanent exhibition about the buildings past.
