Battambang Heritage Preservation Initiative Online

To complete the reconstruction of the Old Provincial Hall a REPLICATION of the original GATE, which was demolished at the beginning of the new century, will be reinstalled. The present gate from the 1980s is oversized and blocks the view axis from the river towards the Provincial Hall. as it was intended by the French city planers in the urban layout.

In the near future the Battambang Provincial Museum, respectively the Exhibition Hall, will house a EXHIBITION on the city’s past.

An INVENTORY of all heritage buildings within the Heritage Protection Area will be carried out soon. The inventory is the first step to categorise and classify the buildings and later on apply appropriate measures of protection.

In cooperation with Phnom Penh based Khmer Architecture Tours a HERITAGE TRAIL is being prepared. Important sights will be connected in a guided tour to educate visitors and enhance their experience in Battambang likewise.
